A novel penalized wall function method for simulations of wall-bounded compressible turbulent flows is proposed. Predictive model for wall-bounded turbulent flow.

The behavior of turbulent fluid motion, particularly in the thin chaotic fluid layers immediately adjacent to solid boundaries, can be difficult to understand or predict. These layers account for up to 50% of the aerodynamic drag on modern airliners and occupy the first 100 meters or so of the atmosphere, thus governing wider meteorological phenomena. The physics of these layers is such that th...

Wall-oscillation conditions for drag reduction in turbulent channel flow

The drag reduction properties of a turbulent channel flow modified by spanwise sinusoidal oscillations of the walls are investigated by direct numerical simulations. The work is based on the linear relation between the drag reduction and the parameter S, function of the maximum wall velocity and the period of the oscillation. This quantity, first determined by JI-Choi et al. (2002) and later st...

An ODE-based Wall Model for Turbulent Flow Simulations

This paper presents a new wall model to compute turbulent boundary layers using the RANS equations in high Reynolds number flows. The model solves a two-point boundary value problem for a coupled set of equations for the streamwise velocity and the turbulent viscosity. Since it includes both the pressure gradient and the momentum balance of the full Navier-Stokes system, the ODE is valid farthe...

A Mass Conservative Method for Numerical Modeling of Axisymmetric flow

In this paper, the cell-centered finite volume method (CC-FVM) has been presented to simulate the axisymmetric radial flow toward a pumping well. The model is applied to the unstructured triangular grids which allows to simulate inhomogeneous and complex-shaped domains. Due to the non-orthogonality of the irregular grids, the multipoint flux approximation (MPFA) methods are used to discretize t...

An Alternating Direction Implicit Method for Modeling of Fluid Flow

This research includes of the numerical modeling of fluids in two-dimensional cavity. The cavity flow is an important theoretical problem. In this research, modeling was carried out based on an alternating direction implicit via Vorticity-Stream function formulation. It evaluates different Reynolds numbers and grid sizes. Therefore, for the flow field analysis and prove of the ability of the sc...
